2016 Jean Walsh Scholarship
The 2016 Annual Jean Walsh Scholarship Award
Sylvia Schneider of Tarentum, Pennsylvania, was chosen as the recipient of the Women’s Business Network (WBN) 2016 Jean Walsh Scholarship Award. She will be applying the scholarship grant to attend a 12-week Accountability for Entrepreneurs Academy course. The course is designed to help business owners find ways to improve their performance and sharpen their business skills by setting real goals, tracking results, making adjustments to the original goals and to share ideas, challenges and successes and to encourage each other to help take their respective businesses to the next level.
A graduate of Robert Morris University with a BSBA in Accounting, a Master’s in Accounting and an MBA in Technology Management from the University of Phoenix, Sylvia spent 20 years in various corporate positions working her way up to a management position before venturing out as an entrepreneur with a family-owned start-up computer business. She was introduced to SendOutCards in 2009 as a way to stay in touch with her computer clients, showering them with thank you cards and appreciation and this is where she fell in love with the products and services. As a Marketing Distributor for SendOutCards, she recently attained advanced distributorship and VIP status at the company’s international annual convention. She is a firm believer in personal development and learning and is always looking for ways to increase her people and business skills. Sylvia says, “A successful business owner should always be willing to learn new skills and continue to grow both personally and professionally. If you are not learning about your customers and your workers, you are dying and your business will fail”.
Sylvia has been married to her husband, Jeff, for 39 years and they have two adult sons. In addition to raising two sons and being active in all their school, scouting and sporting activities, she is proud of completing her college degrees while working her full time corporate jobs. She is currently an active member of the WBN – Allegheny Valley Chapter, the Alpha Chi International Scholarship Society, the Holy Family Roman Catholic Church in Creighton, the AK Strong Chamber of Commerce and a premier member of the Women’s Small Business Association. She is also now teaching her granddaughter, a Junior Girl Scout, the importance of giving back to our local communities. The past two years they have both volunteered to be servers at the local Salvation Army Thanksgiving dinner.
Women’s Business Network was founded in 1989 and has over 400 members in 24 chapters located across Southwestern Pennsylvania. WBN’s mission is to provide personal and professional resources to advance the presence of aspiring and successful businesswomen. For more information visit www.wbninc.com.
