2012 Service Award

This year the Awards Committee broke tradition and awarded the Service Award to, not just one, but three WBN members. Each woman recognized played a huge role during the past year and was equally deserving of this special recognition. The Service Award is awarded to a member for greatly distinguished herself by meritorious service in the furthering of WBN, it’s mission and goals. All three of these winners have shown tireless service and belief in WBN. Over the last year they have diligently worked to position WBN for further growth to help take our organization to the next level. We congratulate the following members:

Mary Ann Novak (North Hills Chapter) Mary Ann is a graduate of Community College of Allegheny County. Since 2006, Mary Ann has been an Independent Distributor of Reliv, a global company, which focuses on advanced nutritional products and supplements. Daily she strives to educate people on the necessity of nutritional supplementation for maintaining optimal health and vitality.

Mary Ann donates her time to help her community grow through involvement in local organizations. She is a member of the WBN North Hills Chapter. For the past four years, she has been the Growth Committee Chair, which establishes new areas for chapters and for the past two years she has been a member of the organization’s Executive Board. She is currently serving as the President of WBN. For the past 25 years Mary Ann has been a member of North Way Christian Community Church, serving in a variety of roles from worship leader, mentor, and children’s ministry to facilitating bible studies. She has also been a core group member of the Community Impact Group, a committee to inform the church on issues necessary and critical to the times, as well as a coordinator for the Presidential Prayer Team.

Char Kinder (South Hills Chapter) Char is a Life-Balance Coach and Certified Laughter Leader who has owned and successfully operated her coaching, consulting and training business – Discovery Works – for eleven years. She has helped hundreds of clients increase their work performance and make significant changes to lead balanced lives. Char received her nursing degree and laughter certification to enhance her understanding of the mind/body connection and the physical and psychological aspects of well-being and joy.

Char donates her time to help her community grow through involvement in local organizations. She is a member of the South Hills Chapter of WBN and is also actively involved as a co-chair of both WBN’s Executive Strategic Implementation Team and the Strategic Planning Committee. She also volunteers for the American Cancer Society in Relays for Life and various walks for Leukemia and Breast Cancer.

Kristina Rugh (Norwin Chapter) Kristina is a graduate of Grove City College with a degree in Elementary Education. Since 2007 she has been a partner/owner of Householder Lifestyle Consulting, LLC which focuses on using the principles of hospitality, organization and professionalism as a framework for bringing success to small businesses, to one’s personal household, and to non-profit organizations. Kristina became a QuickBooks ProAdvisor in 2008 and identifies business needs and designs a plan of action to bring success to any business office. She has developed several organizational binders to address the needs faced by business owners. Over the years Kristina has also had the opportunity to tutor young students and from her experiences she designed “The Homework Log Checklist System” to help students and parents overcome homework hassles as part of her commitment to provide practical solutions for her clients.

Kristina is a member of the WBN Norwin Chapter and is also a co-chair of both WBN’s Executive Strategic Implementation Team and the Strategic Planning Committee. She also holds a staff position as WBN’s bookkeeper. In 2008 she published her first children’s book and is looking to publish the third in the series in 2012. She is a life-long member of the First United Church in Harrison City and over the years has served in leadership roles in her local church and the Association and Conference level for the United Church of Christ.

Women’s Business Network has over 400 members from the Southwestern Pennsylvania area and is a non-profit organization whose mission is to build an effective organization of women business owners and professionals committed to integrity of performance and service as well as the creative exchange of business.
